What Causes CAD?
There are three main types of CAD:
- Coronary artery disease, where the main arteries of the heart become hardened and narrow.
- Coronary microvascular disease, where the tiny arteries in the heart muscle are affected.
- Non-obstructive coronary artery disease, where the walls of the coronary arteries are not hardened and narrowed, but the heart arteries can suddenly tighten and temporarily block blood flow to the heart.
The cause of these problems is not clear. It may involve damage or injury to the walls of the large and/or small blood vessels.
If you were told you have heart disease, or have a family history of heart disease, our DM program is here to help. We have a team of registered nurses specializing in the management of heart disease.
