Asthma Monitoring and Action Plan
Work with your or your child's doctor to fill in the asthma action plan that works for you. An asthma action plan is a written treatment plan document that describes the following:
- How to recognize and handle asthma attacks
- Which medicines to take and when to take them
- When to call your doctor or go to the emergency room
- Who to contact in an emergency
If your child has asthma, it is important that his/her caretakers and school staff know about the asthma action plan.
For more information on asthma monitoring and action plans, see Living with Asthma.
For more information about the use of peak flow meters, see Measuring Your Peak Flow Rate by the American Lung Association.
Your asthma specialist will send you an asthma action plan to take to your or your child's doctor. He or she will also help you to measure and understand how you are doing with your or your child's asthma control.
