Zoster (Shingles) Vaccine
TRICARE covers the shingles vaccine for age appropriate beneficiaries in accordance with Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines. Those with chronic medical conditions should discuss any precautions related to this vaccine with their physician.
- For those 50 and older, the CDC currently recommends two doses of Shingrix, two to six months apart.
- For immunocompromised adults 19 years and older, the CDC currently recommends two doses of Shingrix, two to six months apart, or one to two months apart for those who would benefit from completing the series in a shorter period.
For more detailed clinical guidelines, review the CDC's Shingrix recommendations.
TRICARE beneficiaries can obtain the shingles vaccine from their family doctor or participating retail network. Visit TRICARE's Immunization page to learn more.
Note: Physicians who do not have the vaccine in stock in their office can order the vaccine as needed through a specialty pharmacy (specialty drug supplier). Specialty drug suppliers can be located using our Network Provider Directory.
