Vascular Diagnostic Studies, Non-Invasive
Vascular diagnostic studies, non-invasive are a covered benefit. If performed in conjunction with podiatry services, the podiatrist’s license must allow for the performance of non-invasive vascular diagnostic testing.
Ventricular Assist Device
Ventricular assist devices (VAD) are a limited benefit. VADs are used to support heart function and can be external or implantable. These devices may be a covered benefit when the device is approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and used for an FDA-approved indication.
To expedite the review process, providers may attach a Letter of Attestation in lieu of clinical documentation to the authorization request.

Vestibular Rehabilitation
Vestibular rehabilitation may be covered for the treatment of vestibular disorders, including benign paroxysmal positional vertigo.
Vision Services
Examinations and other services to diagnose or treat a medical condition of the eye, eyelid, lacrimal system, or orbit are covered benefits. A “routine eye examination” is an evaluation of the eyes not related to a medical or surgical condition or injury. See eye examinations for additional information.
Vision Therapy
Vision therapy, also known as orthoptics, is not a covered benefit.
Vitamin D Screening
Vitamin D screenings for beneficiaries with a suspected deficiency is a covered benefit. A vitamin D screening in asymptomatic beneficiaries is not a covered benefit as a preventive measure and/or during examinations without abnormal findings.
Vitamins, Prenatal
The TRICARE pharmacy benefit covers prenatal vitamins that require a prescription. Prenatal vitamins are only covered for prenatal care. Prenatal vitamins that do not require a prescription (over-the-counter) are not a covered benefit.
