New Technology Add-On Payment Application Available at www.tricare-west.com

In October 2023, Health Net Federal Services, LLC (HNFS) sent a communication about the pediatric-specific and TRICARE-designated New Technology Add-On Payments (NTAP) changes TRICARE made to the TRICARE Reimbursement Manual (TRM) . You can now find the TRICARE West Region (West Region)-specific NTAP application mentioned in HNFS’ October communication in the Medical Management section of our Forms page.

What are NTAPs?

NTAPs allow hospitals to receive more appropriate reimbursement under the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ (CMS) hospital Inpatient Prospective Payment System (IPPS) for new medical services and technology not yet included in Diagnosis-Related Group (DRG) rates. More information about NTAP applications is available at www.health.mil/ntap and in the TRICARE Reimbursement Manual, Chapter 6, Section 11.

When should the NTAP application be used?

West Region providers must complete the West Region-specific NTAP application available on our website when requesting reimbursement for an NTAP that meets TRICARE requirements. 

How do I submit a completed West Region NTAP application?

Email your completed application to HNFS at HNFS_TRICARE_NTAPS@hnfs.com. 

When are NTAP applications due? 

Providers should submit applications to HNFS by July 8 of the preceding fiscal year (FY) for which the TRICARE-specific NTAP is to be considered (for example, for FY 2025, not later than July 8, 2024). Note: Refer to Title 42, Code of Federal Regulations, Part 412, §412.87(f) for additional due date/timeline information.
